Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

11.18pm And that is all from our live coverage tonight. See you tomorrow!

Devdutt Padikkal: To be honest it’s been special, all I could do was wait my turn. When I had Covid all I wanted was to to come here and play, and when I missed the first one it really hurt me. The wicket was coming on really well, and when we get into a partnership like that it gets easier. No real tension when the hundred came, I told Virat to go for it. At the end of the day even if I didn’t get a hundred it wouldn’t have mattered to me if the team won. The conversation was very clear, we both realised when we were going good. There were times when he was going better, times when I was going better. We just wanted to rotate the strike.

Devdutt Padikkal is the Player of the Match.

Virat Kohli: It was an outstanding innings, he batted really well for his first season last time as well. Bit of a talk about accelerating after 40-50, this was the best way to put it to rest. Great talent, great one to look forward in the future. I had the best seat in the house. I think T20 is all about partnership batting. You can’t always be the guy going dominant. When one guy goes, it’s important for me to rotate strike, and vice versa. Tonight my role was different and I wanted to hang in there. In the end I picked my spots, the pitch was good. We spoke about it [the 100], he said finish it off. He said many more to come, I told him you tell me that after you get the first one. I want him to build from here and really help the team. He deserved to get the hundred today, flawless innings. We don’t have many stand-out names in bowlers, but we have effective bowlers. Guys who can do it day in day out. Four out of four times we’ve been the stand-out team in the death overs. We actually restricted 30-35 runs. Dev’s innings was outstanding, but for me the bowling which was aggressive, optimistic was key. I would just tell the fans not to get overexcited, we are being professional, we understand the momentum can go away from us quickly. One step at a time, not getting overexcited.

Glenn Maxwell: That was my favourite game to watch so far. Clinical from start to finish. I’ve certainly been looking to go out there, but the way those two went, they were on top the whole way through. Just trying to find a way to get better and better in every game. We’re never satisfied with our work. Probably didn’t bowl our best tonight. But when we’re winning and not playing the best, it’s a good sign with the team. I’ve not done any work with him (DDP). he’s got a beautiful flow of the bat. Obviously he had Covid at the start of the year, felt a bit flat, but he cashed in.

Sanju Samson: Our batsmen did really well to get a score on the board but they did really well to chase without losing a wicket. We need to do some homework and need an honest review about our batting. That’s what this sport is all about, we keep on failing and we keep on coming about. It puts you down but you have to keep on fighting.

Abhishek: “All RCB fans, lets start petition to cancel next year mega acution!”

Aayush: “Fizz was generous enough to not slip it past leg in the first ball of the over itself!”

Richard Wesley: “What a moment for young Padikkal… A master chase with the chase master at the other end!!! Big headache for the Indian selectors ahead of the WT20!”

10.54pm RCB emphatically reclaim the No. 1 spot, and their force has consigned Rajasthan to the bottom of the table. This is the third highest total chased down without the loss of a wicket. It’s RCB’s highest partnership in chase. Padikkal is the third youngest batter to get a hundred in the IPL . The youngest to get it in a chase. It’s record after record. That was also the 14th hundred by an RCB player, the most for any franchise. Complete domination after Royals had done superbly to put up a decent score on the board.

16.45 Mustafizur Rahman to Padikkal full and down leg and past the keeper. He’s beaten on the flick, Samson’s beaten on the dive to his right 5 wides
16.31 Mustafizur Rahman to Kohli slower ball at a length on middle stump, punched to extra cover’s left 1 run
16.21 Mustafizur Rahman to Padikkal we have a review for lbw here. He’s copped a full toss on the pad, but that looked to hit him outside leg stump as he was beaten on the flick. Yes, hitting outside leg, going down leg 1 leg bye
16.14 Mustafizur Rahman to Padikkal drills it past extra cover and brings up his maiden IPL hundred! Pristine drive to cap off a pristine innings. This is just outside off, his front leg is out of the way and he goes inside-out, all along the floor, to the fielder’s left. His team-mates are on their feet. Another milestone in a fairytale career FOUR
End of Over No.16 Royal Challengers Bangalore 170/0 Last Over (8 runs)

Three needed for Padikkal. Seven for RCB.

15.60 Sakariya to Kohli short of a length and he walks into this, trying to clip through square. Cops it on the body no run

Around the wicket now

15.51 Sakariya to Padikkal low full toss at leg stump, short-arm whip to long-on’s left and they only take a single 1 run

Akhil: “By the way, that Mustafizur’s over was the only one without a boundary. Needs to be appreciated considering the mood the batsmen are in.”

15.41 Sakariya to Kohli slower ball at a length just outside off, shuffles and opens the face to run this to short third 1 run
15.31 Sakariya to Padikkal yorker at leg stump, jammed out towards wide long-on 1 run
15.24 Sakariya to Padikkal edged and over short third! Possibly the first boundary he’s miscued. Full and just outside off, clears the front leg and has a big hoick across the line and ends up looking a little silly. But he’s earned the right to do that tonight FOUR
15.11 Sakariya to Kohli slower ball at a length outside off, steps out and slaps this to sweeper’s right 1 run
End of Over No.15 Royal Challengers Bangalore 162/0 Last Over (3 runs)

Now the second time out. RCB’s required rate is 3.09, in case you wanted to know. 16 needed to win, Padikkal nine away from a hundred. He has at least one hundred in every senior tournament he’s played apart from the Ranji Trophy. It’s only his second season..

14.60 Mustafizur Rahman to Padikkal sliced straight to short third! Low full toss just outside off, allows that on and opens the face. A yard either side and that was four no run
14.50 Mustafizur Rahman to Padikkal searing yorker at middle and leg, dips in late. Manages to jam it out no run
14.41 Mustafizur Rahman to Kohli low full toss outside off, toe-ended drive to long-on 1 run
14.30 Mustafizur Rahman to Kohli beaten. Offcutter at a length, grips and turns past the outside edge as he looks to drive on the up no run
14.21 Mustafizur Rahman to Padikkal slower ball, short and just outside off. Looks to pull and miscues. Sliced to long-on’s right 1 run
14.11 Mustafizur Rahman to Kohli yorker length at off stump, steps out and jabs it into the covers 1 run

Rishi: “Virat’s shotmaking could have forced that reverse sweep of Padikkal. Not many runs left in the chase to get that century xD if kohli keeps going like that”

End of Over No.14 Royal Challengers Bangalore 159/0 Last Over (17 runs)

Rabi: “Fantastic batting from both DP and VK. However, if VK keeps up this SR, DP will have to step up a bit if there is to be a century in this innings…”

13.61 Gopal to Kohli length at middle stump, deep in the crease to drop this into midwicket with soft hands 1 run
13.54 Gopal to Kohli dropped short again and punished again. Legbreak wide outside off, waits on it and cuts powerfully to sweeper’s left FOUR
13.41 Gopal to Padikkal googly, short of a length at leg stump, punched to deep midwicket off the back foot 1 run
13.34 Gopal to Padikkal reverse pull over short third! Swivels, presumably for the googly, from his domestic team-mate. It’s a legbreak that meets him. But it is so short, he can get this away from off stump FOUR

Akhil: “Kohli was on 25 when Padikkal was on 80. Now they are on 61 and 85 respectively. Can’t keep Kohli calm for too long. Can you?”

13.21 Gopal to Kohli short and turning away outside off, reaches out and punches to long-off 1 run
13.16 Gopal to Kohli pulled flat and firmly to deep midwicket’s left! Dropped short at off stump, in position quickly and sent on its way SIX
End of Over No.13 Royal Challengers Bangalore 142/0 Last Over (13 runs)
12.60 Morris to Padikkal low full toss just outside off, driven to extra cover off the toe-end no run
12.51 Morris to Kohli length outside off, punched on the rise to sweeper cover 1 run
12.44 Morris to Kohli full toss on the pads, stands tall and whips that fine of long leg to bring up 6000 runs in the IPL. The first batter do that FOUR

Mohd Tariq Ansa: “Such a shame there aren’t enough runs for two centuries !”

12.31 Morris to Padikkal slower ball at a length on off stump, drops it into the off side with soft hands 1 run
12.21 Morris to Kohli dipping full toss at off stump, shuffles and pats this to mid-on to bring up his first fifty of the season 1 run
12.16 Morris to Kohli slaps it over mid-off! You know the timing is back when Kohli brings this shot out. Slower ball at a length outside off, lots of room and he stretches out and slaps it on the up SIX
End of Over No.12 Royal Challengers Bangalore 129/0 Last Over (12 runs)

Highest IPL scores for RCB against RR:

84* – Devdutt Padikkal, Mumbai, Today
83 – Yuvraj Singh, Bengaluru, 2014

11.61 Sakariya to Kohli slower short ball outside off, under-edge on the pull to deep square 1 run

Aravind: “That was beautifully caressed past point for 4. Lovely shot by Kohli.”

11.54 Sakariya to Kohli oh too simple. Short and just outside off, steps out and simply uses the pace to slice this past point. Sweeper is too straight to stop this to his left FOUR
