The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional cricket league in India. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007 and is managed by IPL Media and Events Pvt. Ltd. The initial eight teams were selected from the cities with the most fan interest in cricket: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, and Mumbai. The teams are divided into two groups of four teams each, with each team playing all other teams in its group once at home and once away. At the end of the season, the top two teams from each group advance to a four-team playoff to determine the champion.
