The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional cricket league in India. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007 and is contested annually by eight teams. The format of the competition is a double round-robin tournament with each team playing every other team twice, followed by a four-team playoff.
